I think sometime before Evelyn's first birthday I'd like to have a christening/blessing. I'm not a member of a church, so I don't know if it will happen. I was never christened or baptized. My mother decided she wanted us to tell her when we were ready. My sister was baptized as an adult. She never christened or baptized her kids until they asked for it. I have yet to be baptized and don't know if I ever will. I've got my beliefs and even though the bible says I should make them public, I don't want to.

If you are unsure about having a religious ceremony, why not throw a Baby Debutante Party (trademarked by myself, all copyrights owned by me....royalties can be sent to my new address).

Rather than having some elaborate baby dipping ceremony, you could just mark the festivities with some other memorable childhood first....like...

First mud bath, complete with everyone bringing a bathing suit and towel and getting in the mud and playing with E. And take lots of pictures, and you can send one to everyone that attends a picture of themself with Evelyn, with a little note that says "Thanks for marking this important childhood event with me!", and a little muddy print (if you aren't up to sending actual dried mud prints through the mail, you could always have a stamp made of her handprint and use brown ink) on the back. Then you guys can fire up the bbq, bring out the beer, and have a grand ol' party out of it. You could always ask a minister to come out to the party to bless her...but have it be something like "May ELF always be a child at heart and know the true value of love and laughter". Then hit him with a mud pie.

Besides, no child remembers getting an oily mark on their head. But throwing a mud pie at mum, complete with photos, is something they'll talk about for ages.
